Forward Deployed Engineer RoadmapAn independent visual field guide to Forward Deployed Engineering. Canonical repository URL: https://github.com/HubertRonald/fde-roadmap Draft version: 0.1.0 Provenance review date: 2026-09-01

This repository is an independent educational synthesis. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by the primary sources or by any employer associated with the Forward Deployed Engineer title.

How to cite this repository

Until a formal public release archive or DOI exists, cite the repository by title, canonical URL, version or commit when available, and access date.

Suggested format after publication:

Forward Deployed Engineer Roadmap. Version 0.1.0. Independent Visual Field Guide. https://github.com/HubertRonald/fde-roadmap. Accessed YYYY-MM-DD.

The current artifact is a draft, not a claim that v0.1.0 has already been publicly released.

Primary source corpus

[R] roadmap.sh — Forward Deployed Engineer

  • URL: https://roadmap.sh/forward-deployed-engineer
  • Source type: dynamic_web_roadmap
  • Accessed: 2026-09-01
  • Version boundary: no immutable website snapshot is claimed by this repository.
  • Reuse boundary: roadmap.sh's public website notice states that its website content may not be redistributed. This guide therefore links to the resource and independently summarizes themes rather than reproducing its roadmap content.

Living-source note: The roadmap.sh reference is a living resource. This synthesis reflects the version reviewed on the access date above.

Attribution boundary

Original project expression

The following are treated as project-specific expression where not otherwise attributed:

  • prose authored specifically for this guide;
  • editorial organization and terminology independently created for this repository;
  • diagram concepts and human-directed visual composition;
  • editorial annotations and explanatory captions;
  • final curated visual artifacts, to the extent copyright or other applicable rights exist.

This category describes the expression, direction, curation, and presentation, not ownership of general FDE concepts or exclusive authorship of underlying source concepts.

Synthesized concepts

The following are treated as concepts synthesized from the primary source corpus, not as inventions of this repository:

  • capability areas used to describe FDE work;
  • delivery lifecycle and deployment-oriented workflow;
  • learning sequence and readiness progression;
  • field/customer orientation and discovery practices;
  • production, operations, and deployment emphasis;
  • data, cloud, AI, integration, and field-deployment role variants;
  • recurring engineering tradeoffs and evidence-oriented capstone practices.

The guide reconciles, renames, groups, and explains these themes in its own editorial structure.

Primary source corpus

The primary source corpus is exactly the three references listed above for v0.1.0. Additional external references may be added later, but they should not silently replace or obscure the provenance of this version.

External references

External links, repository content, trademarks, quotations, code, and other third-party material remain subject to their original authorship and licensing. CC BY 4.0 in this repository does not relicense third-party material.

Visual attribution

The accepted final diagrams use a compact provenance model identifying the primary corpus. That attribution credits conceptual source material without implying that any one visual is a copied diagram.

The seven PNGs currently checked in under src/img/ are the accepted final visual set for v0.1.0. Their production provider and production method are not asserted by this repository.

Roadmap synthesis, source selection, conceptual structure, diagram intent, and content validation remain part of the repository's editorial synthesis and presentation layer.

Visual-production provenance is kept separate from conceptual source provenance. The primary source corpus remains the source of the FDE concepts represented in the diagrams, and no visual-production provider endorsement is implied.

Independence statement

This project is not the official roadmap of roadmap.sh, thecoder8890, pierpaolo28, or any company using the Forward Deployed Engineer title.
